Olympics critics criticize too much
Yesterday was the finals for the female figure skating singles, my favorite sport in the Olympics. It's the night I stay up late and watch until the anthems come up at the end. Yesterday was a little disappointing, two out the three of the "best" women, fell. I find it disappointing - for them. It must be awful to train and prepare for a whole year for an instant and not be able to show it.
I am amazed every time I see the Olympics, watch these athletes that give their 200%. They definitely live for their sport and what they believe in (in a way).
Back to the women's finals: all in all, I found the three women that won medals to have earned them fully. The gold went to Japan (their first gold in that event ever) - a beautiful and graceful girl who did a flawless performance and who, had proven to be ready to match any difficulty level (if need be) in order to win. Well done!
The silver went to the US, the only way to describe the skater was to call her Juliette. She skated to the song of Romeo and Juliette and honestly, she was so graceful, she was a lady. Unfortunately, she fell during her first two jumps and could not compete for the gold - but you know, it doesn't matter because one could only admire her determination and bravery in getting back up and doing her best in the rest of the program.
The bronze went to Russia, a girl that battles a blood desease, has her mom in dyalisis and is already 27. I think she put on a great fight and although she just wanted the gold, and has tried to get it in three Olympics; I think she was just sorry she couldn't perform as she can.
I think the three girls are golden and should not be criticized by men http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11530090/?GT1=7756 and http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11535881/ who do not know their aches and pains and who cannot appreciate their efforts. I think it is equally admirable a person that can control their nerves and do their best on tough situations, and a person that falls and gets back up - accepts their consequences and still manages to put their best foot forward.
